Lester Allyson Knibbs is originally from New York City.  Currently retired, from 2005 to 2010, he was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

He graduated from Music & Art High School in New York City.  He has a B.A. and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.

He has taught at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and at Howard University in Washington, D.C.  He has performed new improvised music in New York, San Francisco, Austria, Germany and the Netherlands.  He has given classical recitals in New York and North Carolina and performed with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra.
