Elaboration of Motion |
| Motion from one function to the next in the harmonic progression [I-IV-V-I] can be elaborated. The simplest form of harmonic elaboration is the interpolation of one chord into the motion from one function to the next (or within the statement of a single function, which is that form of elaboration called prolongation). For example, in the progression I-vi-IV-V-I, the six chord ("vi") elaborates the motion from the tonic function ("I") to the subdominant function ("IV"). |
